B.E.L.L. (Bloomingdale Extended Learning League)
Advisors: Mrs. Franke, Mrs. DeKeukelaere, Mrs. Okken, Mrs. Paul
The Bloomingdale Extended Learning League is a comprehensive gifted and talented program that encompasses grades 5-8 in the Walter T. Bergen Middle School. The criteria for acceptance into the program is based on a board approved matrix similar to many local school districts. During the fall of each new school year students are notified of their acceptance via letter and may choose to be a part of this exciting program. We incorporate project-based learning, which is a systematic teaching method that engages students in learning essential knowledge and life-enhancing skills through an extended, student-influenced inquiry process.
Learning is structured around complex, authentic questions and carefully designed products and tasks. Topics for projects range from forensic science, ecology, and robotics, to art, literature, mathematics, and everything in between. Dedication and commitment are the values that characterize a B.E.L.L. member as we strive for excellence in learning.
